The School of Chinese Materia Medica, founded in 1958, is one of the earliest established schools in China offering education of Chinese Materia Medica. The School has made great achievements in the following areas: the study of the resources of Chinese medicinal herbs, identification of medicinal plants and Chinese medicinal herbs, identification of medically effective constituents, and evaluation of efficacy of formulas and clinically used herbs. In addition, its research also covers biological pharmacology and development of new herbal medicines. The School has cultivated a large number of Chinese Materia Medica professionals that are playing important roles in the government organizations, research institutions and pharmaceutical industry.
