BUCM Chinese Medicine Center in Australia

In November, 2014, Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China and Hon Tony Abbott, the former Prime Minister of Australia witnessed the signatory ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on establishing the Chinese Medicine Center in Australia by BUCM and Western Sydney University (WSU). The Chinese medicine collaboration between the two Universities has been strong for more than a decade, which not only marked a new era of the internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but also built up an opportunity of mutual understanding between traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. Chinese TCM practitioners from BUCM at Australian Chinese Medicine Center obtained Chinese medicine practitioner - acupuncturist - herbalist registration issued by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) - Chinese Medicine Board of Australia, which is the first approval by AHPRA for the application for general registration including clinical practice by a Chinese TCM registrant of limited registration for teaching or research, marking a breakthrough for Chinese TCM practitioners in this regard. So far, the Center has carried out a range of projects including joint education programme for postgraduate students, herb plantation project and tumor research project.
