The 2026 Conference of Traditional Chinese Medicine Regulatory Science took place from July 25 to 26 at the Beijing Conference Center. Organized by Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) as part of its 70th-anniversary celebrations, the conference attracted over 500 participants, including representatives from national drug regulatory bodies, academia, and industry. The event was chaired by BUCM Vice President Wang Ting.

With the theme "Developing Chinese Medicine Regulatory Science to Strengthen Regulatory Foundations and Empower Industry Growth," the conference focused on implementing national strategies for innovation in traditional Chinese medicine and advancing the regulatory science framework to support industry development.

Yang Sheng, deputy director of the National Medical Products Administration, highlighted the crucial role of traditional Chinese medicine regulatory science in achieving scientific regulation. He noted the administration's strategic efforts in enhancing drug regulation, leading to significant advancements in research, platform development, and technology transfer. BUCM was recognized for its contributions as a key research base in this field.

BUCM President Tang Zhishu emphasized the intersection of national strategy and industry transformation, outlining BUCM's "education-technology-talent" strategy. He expressed the university's commitment to advancing regulatory science through innovative tools and standards.

The conference featured the launch of BUCM's regulatory science research base and the release of the "2025 Traditional Chinese Medicine Regulatory Science Blue Book" and new educational materials. A strategic partnership with People's Medical Publishing House was also announced.

Keynote speakers, including former Deputy Director Zhao Junning, discussed the evolution and future of traditional Chinese medicine regulatory science. Other experts presented on topics such as hypothesis-driven drug research and natural product-based innovation.

The event concluded with a closed-door meeting of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Regulatory Science Researchers Alliance, reaching a consensus on strengthening the regulatory science base. This inaugural conference showcased significant progress in traditional Chinese medicine regulatory science, marking a new phase of development.
