Beijing University of Chinese Medicine’s (BUCM) Honeysuckle Cultivation and Development project in Shuangbai county, Yunnan province, has been recognized as an exemplary targeted assistance initiative by the Ministry of Education. This acknowledgment underscores BUCM's role in empowering rural revitalization through traditional Chinese medicine (CM).

In line with China's rural revitalization strategy, BUCM focuses on Shuangbai county's industrial growth and income needs. The university has developed a comprehensive honeysuckle industry model, encompassing "seed selection, technical guidance, standardized planting, deep processing, and brand enhancement." This initiative has transformed honeysuckle into a significant income source for locals.

Professor Li Weidong and his team from BUCM’s School of Chinese Materia Medica have been instrumental in promoting high-quality variety selection and green cultivation techniques, addressing challenges in planting and processing. The project now spans over 2,000 acres across four towns and 34 villages, with farmers increasing their income by over 10,000 yuan ($1449.8) per household.

BUCM collaborates with local enterprises to develop high-value honeysuckle products, such as tea and personal care items, extending the industry chain. By building production and sales platforms and enhancing brand development, BUCM has turned CM resources into industrial and economic benefits, boosting farmers’ incomes and village economies.

This recognition by the Ministry of Education affirms BUCM’s commitment to rural revitalization. The university aims to continue leveraging its CM expertise to innovate and deepen its assistance efforts, contributing to rural revitalization and supporting China's health strategy and regional development.
