The National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences announced the list of approved projects for the 2025 National Social Science Fund's Rare and Endangered Disciplines Research Program on Jan 26. 

Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) has achieved a significant breakthrough by securing funding for an academic team project for the first time, along with receiving individual scholar project funding for the seventh consecutive year.

The Rare and Endangered Disciplines Research Program focuses on supporting research that holds significant importance for national development, cultural heritage preservation, and cultural security, or addresses existing gaps in these areas. 

Rare disciplines refer to traditional humanities fields and research directions that receive low academic attention, have challenging outcomes, and possess small research communities. Endangered disciplines are those within rare fields that have unique cultural value, high academic thresholds, significant research difficulties, and very small or even non-existent successor research groups.

The funding for general academic team projects is in line with the standards of major projects under the National Social Science Fund, while individual scholar project funding aligns with the standards of key projects under the same fund.

This achievement underscores BUCM's commitment to advancing research in these critical yet often overlooked areas, contributing to the preservation and development of traditional knowledge and cultural heritage.
