I. Program Types
1. Master’s Degree Programs
The normative program duration is three years, with a maximum study period not exceeding five years.
2. Doctoral Degree Programs
The normative program duration is four years, with a maximum study period not exceeding six years.
II. Language of Instruction
All postgraduate programs for international students at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) are taught in Chinese.
III. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and comply with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China.
2. Applicants should have a passion for Chinese Medicine (CM) and possess a solid foundation in biomedical sciences or CM.
3. Applicants for master’s programs must hold a bachelor’s degree and diploma equivalent to those conferred by Chinese universities. Those applying for professional master’s programs offered by the clinical schools of BUCM are required to hold a bachelor’s degree and diploma in Clinical Medicine (either Traditional Chinese Medicine or Western Medicine).
4. Applicants for doctoral programs must hold a master’s degree and diploma equivalent to those conferred by Chinese universities. Those applying for professional doctoral programs offered by the clinical schools of BUCM are required to hold a master’s degree and diploma in Clinical Medicine (either Traditional Chinese Medicine or Western Medicine).
5. Prospective graduates must provide an original pre-graduation certificate (with an official red stamp or a signature of director) indicating the degree to be awarded upon graduation.
6. Applicants should have outstanding academic performance.
IV. Application Procedures
1. Online Application
Visit http://yanjiusheng.bucm.edu.cn, click on “招生就业” (Admissions & Employment) → “网上报名” (Online Application), then log in to the BUCM 2025 Online Application and Review System for International Master’s/Doctoral Students, register an account, and complete the application form.
2. Application Documents
After passing the preliminary review, applicants must upload clear, color-scanned copies (PDF format) of the following original documents to the online system:
(1) Printed and signed application form (with a recent color photo, white background, bareheaded, 1-inch).
(2) Personal Statement in Chinese (minimum 1,000 characters), including academic and professional background, major research achievements, study plan for the postgraduate stage, and career goals after graduation.
(3) Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors in Chinese or English (must include signatures and contact information).
(4) Official academic transcripts (Bachelor’s for Master’s applicants, Master’s for Doctoral applicants) or notarized copies.
- Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.
- GPA must be clearly indicated. If not, a separate GPA certification is required.
(5) Degree certificate(s) and graduation certificate(s) of the highest education attained, or notarized copies if applicable.
- For prospective students, a pre-graduation certificate must be provided.
- Certificates in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.
- For degrees obtained overseas, a credential verification report from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange is required.
(6) List of academic publications in the past five years (including abstracts, cover page, table of contents and first page of each paper), or other research achievements.
(7) Passport copy (valid until at least September 2025).
(8) Language proficiency certificate: HSK Level 4 or above (the certificate must be submitted no later than June 30, 2025).
- Applicants who have completed a degree program in Chinese at a Chinese university are exempt from the HSK requirement.
(9) Certificate of no criminal record.
(10) Physical Examination Report (completed in English and strictly following the Foreigner Physical Examination Form).
- Forms missing required tests, photos, stamps or signatures are invalid.
- The original form and all attachments must be brought when entering China.
✹ Please ensure that all application materials are uploaded before the deadline.
✹ Photos taken by phone are not accepted. Incomplete or unclear materials will affect the evaluation result.
✹ Incomplete applications will not be processed, and all submitted materials and fees are non-refundable once uploaded and paid.
3. Application Fee
RMB 800, paid online via the application system. (On-site payment is not accepted.)
V. Application Period
January 23 – March 30, 2025
Applicants intending to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B – High-level Postgraduate Program) must complete their application by March 2, 2025.

VII. Second-round Examination
• Master’s Programs: Mid-April 2025 (estimated)
• Doctoral Programs: Mid-May 2025 (estimated)
Specific arrangements will be announced by each respective school or faculty.
VIII. Admission
Admission decisions will be made based on the results of the second-round examination. Admission letters are expected to be issued by the end of June 2025.
IX. Tuition Fees
• Master’s Programs: RMB 38,000 per year
• Doctoral Programs: RMB 47,000 per year
Note: Tuition fees shall be calculated based on the Bank of China’s foreign exchange rate on the day of payment.
X. Visa
Admitted applicants must apply for a student visa at the local Chinese embassy or consulate using the admission notice and the visa application form for studying in China (JW201/JW202). Upon arrival in China, applicants must convert their X1 visa into a residence permit for study through the International Education College within 30 days.
XI. Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship – Category A (Country/Program-based Scholarship)
Applications are handled by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), Chinese embassies/consulates abroad and relevant institutions. Applicant information is submitted to the university for admission consideration, and the university provides feedback on admission results.
2. Chinese Government Scholarship – Category B (High-level Graduate Program)
(1) Complete the Chinese Government Scholarship application at http://www.campuschina.org and upload all required documents by March 1, 2025 (select “Category B” and use the acceptance agency code 10026).
(2) Simultaneously, submit an application in BUCM’s online registration system by March 2, 2025 (see Section IV, “Application Procedures” for details on required documents). BUCM will review the application, and after assessment by faculty experts (written test or interview), prospective candidates will receive a pre-admission notice via email. Without a pre-admission notice, the scholarship application cannot be finalized.
(3) Candidates must upload supplementary application documents in the CSC Scholarship Online Application System by March 26, 2025. Documents must include the pre-admission notice issued by BUCM.
(4) The China Scholarship Council will review candidates’ qualifications and documents to determine the scholarship recipients.
(5) BUCM will notify scholarship recipients via email and publish the list of awardees. The admission notice and visa application form for studying in China (JW201) will be mailed to the recipients.

3. Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students
Eligible self-financed students may apply. Scholarships will be awarded to students with outstanding performance after a comprehensive evaluation.
XII. Other Information
1. Once an application category is submitted via BUCM’s online registration system, it cannot be changed. Applicants must accurately select their application category when submitting materials:
o Category A: Chinese Government Scholarship (Country/Program-based)
o Category B: Chinese Government Scholarship (High-level Graduate Program)
o Self-financed
2. Applications are considered valid only if successfully submitted through BUCM’s online registration system. Submissions via email will not be accepted.
