Chinese Medicine (CM), which originated from the long annals of ancient history and has gone through thousands of years of evolution, has emerged as one of the most resplendent components of Chinese traditional culture. It has made significant contributions to global health and is gaining growing influence worldwide.

"Perceiving China – Exploration of Traditional Chinese Medicine", the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) summer school program, aims to guide international students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, together with Chinese students, to understand China, experience Beijing and delve into CM through a combination of lectures, experiential activities and observational visits.

Eligibility：

Program 1: Currently enrolled middle school and high school, undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students (non-CM majors) from foreign higher education institutions or organizations, as well as foreign scholars including teachers, young researchers and other academic professionals. Age:13-45 years old.

In the group, if there are underage students (below 18 years old), accompanying guardians must be assigned. The ratio of accompanying guardians to underage students should be 1:5 to 1:10. If there are fewer than five underage students, at least one accompanying adult must serve as the guardian.

With the legal guardian’s authorization, the accompanying guardian role may be assigned to the group’s lead teacher.

Program 2: This program is open to non-ethnic Chinese students aged 14-30 years old. Ethnic Chinese participants, if admitted, must not exceed 20 percent of the total group size. All participants are required to pass the HSK/YCT test and submit their results before the conclusion of the program. Students who fail to pass the HSK/YCT will be required to cover the cost of the program.

Program Content (adjustable according to participants’ educational backgrounds):

The program includes lectures and activities on basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine, CM diagnosis, meridians and acupoints, common Chinese herbal medicines, foundations and applications of acupuncture and tuina (Chinese massage), industry field trips, Chinese language and culture, diverse cultural experiences and exchange activities.

Schedule: The program is available throughout the year and its duration is either 11 days or 14 days (including arrival and departure).

Instruction Language: Courses are delivered in English or Chinese.

Application Period: Applications must be submitted according to the following schedule based on the program: 

- Program 1: three months prior to the project commencement date 

- Program 2: six months prior to the project commencement date

Scholarship Funding Coverage

(Subject to Approval)

Our university will apply for scholarship funding to cover the following expenses (final amounts subject to official approval): tuition fees, accommodation fees, meal expenses, medical insurance during the stay in China, scheduled study trips and visits, local transportation costs

Expenses to be borne by participants: international airfare, visa application fees, other personal expenses
